Animal Nutrients - Manager

Objective

The objective of the Animal Nutrients Manager is to manage and maintain a successful team, provide guidance to all team members, and ensure all farm practices are adhered to.  This is a position with a high level of responsibility and commitment.   It also requires the ability to lead and manage the farm team to meet production goals effectively and efficiently, all while maintaining the health, safety and well-being of the animals.

Physical Job Requirements

  • Frequent lifting of 5 to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally lifting more than 25 pounds to 75 pounds
  • Ability to resist 25 pounds pressure hose for extended duration routinely throughout the work week
  • Requires a lot of physical movements such as bending, stretching, walking, squatting, pulling, pushing, lifting and working on your feet

Responsibilities

  • Follows all biosecurity practices and procedures.
  • Unloads, applies, and incorporates effluent to fields in compliance with applicable regulations, procedures while following supervisor and farmer instructions.
  • Monitors field conditions.
  • Ensures proper rate of manure is applied.
  • Transports farm equipment to various application sites.
  • Fuels farm equipment and trucks.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on farm equipment.
  • Acquires replacement parts from vendors and schedules repairs as needed.
  • Troubleshoots issues as they arise.
  • Cleans trucks on a routine basis by washing trucks with high-pressure washers, hoses, brushes, and shovels.
  • Inspects and maintains complete vehicle condition.
  • Reports progress, truck and equipment status, conditions, actions, and problems to Operations Supervisor daily.
  • Prepares internal and external service work orders and purchasing requisitions for vehicle maintenance using standard forms, as needed.
  • Logs man-hour usage and work status daily using standard forms.
  • Prepares, presents, and participates in training pertaining to safety, equipment, and beneficial use regulations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform all other duties assigned and required by supervisor
  • Participates in taking effluent and soil samples in accordance with applicable regulations and sampling schedules.
  • Schedule and maintain effluent application fields each offseason.
  • Create work orders for animal nutrient team.
  • Obtain state manure training and certifications as required.
  • Discuss field conditions with farmers prior to application of biosolids and responds to farmer questions and/or concerns as needed.
  • May perform fabrication and welding.
  • May perform maintenance and other duties as assigned at swine production facilities.
  • Groundskeeping at all LEI facilities including mowing, spraying, and weed eating.
  • Operate and maintain pivots.
  • Perform excavation work on underground pipes.
  • Utilize equipment to unplug effluent pipes at production facilities.
  • Snow removal at all LEI facilities.
  • Spread compost with manure spreader.
