Safety Director

Livingston Enterprises, Inc. is looking for a professional, safety-minded person to fill our Safety & Environmental Director position. This person will help provide a work environment that promotes the health and safety of caretakers and animals, educate caretakers on the ethical principles of farming and prepare them to meet their obligations consistent with these principles, and work to provide an environment where both caretakers and animals are treated fairly and with respect. Travel will be required and therefore must have a flexible schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards including OSHA, EPA, etc.
  • Oversee the applications for and receipt of necessary permits
  • Train team members and increase the awareness for safety and to identify risks in the workplace
  • Provide both long and short-term strategies to ensure that each farm maintains programs to promote and protect the health and safety of our team members
  • Be the first contact (24/7) for all safety emergencies
  • Research environmental regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance
  • Track incident metrics and apply findings
  • Oversee safety training programs including CPR/First Aid, safety clinics, goal setting and Monthly safety training
  • Lead injury and incident inquiries and evaluations
  • Have regular visits to farms and support departments to discuss safety issues/training
  • Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts
  • Identify ways to enhance safety on the farm and focus on continuous improvement
  • Document and maintain an emergency action plan (EAP) to reduce the impact of an emergency on our farms
  • Understand animal behavior and execute proper handling techniques to ensure both hogs and handlers are safe while reducing unnecessary stress on the animal
  • Provide training resources to help the animal caretaker understand and recognize the impact they can have on preventing environmental problems
  • Research and implement new materials handling processes
  • Prepare and conduct safety training sessions for team members and vendors
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and travel throughout a facility
  • Problem solving skills, the ability to make good decisions
  • Organizational Skills – ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Self starter

Experience/Qualifications

  • Background in occupational health and safety, safety engineering or a related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
